The Harcourt Bindery is proud to announce its unique electric edge-gilding machine. Manually operated, it comes with a 24" handle and has a 1 1/2 inch silicone roller head. The head contains a rheostat for easy control of temperature.
Edge gilding is accomplished by controlling the variables of heat, dwell time and pressure. The machine allows one to gild on almost any type of paper, including coated stock and inexpensive pulpy papers used by many publishers.
The process of machine edge gilding is simple and ideal for single books and small editions. One sands the book edge after locking the text-block in the press. A coat of size is applied, and the heated roller is rolled over the edge on top of a sheet of gold foil. The process takes about 5 minutes per edge.
The machine sells for $1025.00. It is available in 220 volts for european use. Polysize is $25/quart, and imitation gold leaf is available at $15/2" roll. Further details are available on request.
